for participation on this forum1. Member conduct
1a. Members are to comply with the Proboards Community Guidelines at all time. You can find these HERE
1b. Members may not harass, stalk, bully or continuously pick on other members. This is a space for everybody. In most cases, this will simply result in a dialogue with the admin and a warning - seeing as not everything hurtful is said with ill intent. In severe cases, this behavior will result in a ban.
1c. Members are to respect the admins and moderators on site and their decisions.
1d. In case of disputes and arguments, inform the admin and do not drag other members into it.
2. The Shoutbox/Chat
2a. Please keep discussion in the OOC chat tasteful. Remember not only that your chat is visible to guests but also that people beneath the age of 18 use Proboards.
2b. Please do not post off site links.
2c. Certain discussion topics are forbidden. These include:- Detailed discussion of modern politics. Politics may be referenced or commented upon provided no names of politicians are mentioned.
- Likewise, we discourage in-depth discussions of societal issues regardless of location.
- Discussions that contain graphic descriptions of or references to sex or violence.
- Severe dissatisfaction with the management of this site. Contact staff with your complaints.
3. RP thread content
3a. All roleplay threads must be written in third person, past tense. No exceptions. Example: 'James walked along the road. There he saw Judith. "Hello, Judith!" he said'
3b. Threads may not describe graphic violence or graphic sexual conduct.
3c. A character may not describe the actions of another played character. Godmodding is not permitted, whether you agree upon it first or not, as this it too difficult to verify for staff. Only ever describe the actions of your own character or reference the actions of another's character as already established by their posts.
3d. Threads in the roleplay boards may only contain 'in character' content. Out of Character content is restricted to the designated boards.
3e. All RP posts must be a minimum of 100 words in lenght.
4. Historical changes
We do not demand that everything on this site be historically correct - because that would be impossible. Of course, we hope people will try their best and keep the modern slang out of the threads. But the world we live in today is incredibly different from the one we are roleplaying, and, as a result, we have made certain changes to our fictional world which do not accurately reflect history. We ask that members respect this and keep it in mind.
Variety in sexuality was not a publicly acceptable thing in the Regency period. Because we - and most likely the majority of people - are not comfortable with the exclusion, this site disregards this. LGBTQ+ characters are welcome, and can be played just like any other. Any in game discrimination towards these characters would happen only for a plot discussed and agreed upon by the members involved, and not as a result of historical accuracy, nor as an expression of the valley community as a whole. We predict it is still a highly unlikely plot to occur. Any out of character discrimination will result in a ban.
Similarly, this site will not be roleplaying any historical attitudes towards people of colour or different ethnicities. In this version of a Regency world, there is no slave trade occurring. Any and all attempts to roleplay this type of discrimination will result in a ban and any mention of the slave trade is forbidden in RP as this is not canon to this site. All characters of colour are welcome and can be played without any reference to such historical attitudes and actions. This is not an attempt to bury history on our part but because we cannot guarantee a safe environment for all if these topics are to be handled. Allowing these things to be used in our role play would make the possibility of abuse so significant that the staff cannot condone it in any way.
4c. Gender discrimination and abuse
This is a tricky one. We maintain the semi-segregated lives of men and women of the period. As such, we do accept characters that might have sexist views. We do not, however, accept any attempt to roleplay domestic, sexism-motivated or sexual abuse or violence, just as we also forbid any physical abuse of children, any attempt to roleplay sexual encounters or any character mentions of past experiences of that nature. The only possible exceptions to this would be single occurrences of violence that are not a part of long-term physical abuse. These exceptions will be evaluated by staff on an individual basis based upon the severity, and the decisions in this regard must be respected by members.
4d. Legal Age
Unlike in Austen's books and the Regency era, characters cannot be wedded prior to turning 18 on this site. The Regency legal circumstances still affect adult life - such as inheritance and custody of children. It is likewise unlikely that characters can support themselves at 18, and thus both males and females will continue to be under their father's guardianship until age 21, when they may marry without parental consent as Regency law dictated. Thus this affects only the time up to a character's 18th birthday, where they may not marry with or without parental consent.
5. Accounts and profiles
5a. We only permit OCC accounts for staff members. These are for moderator use.
5b. We only permit original characters and semi-canon characters that do not take away from the regency setting to be created. This means that you cannot create and play a character named Harry Potter who is a wizard as that would be portraying an incompatible canon. But you could play a character named Mr Darcy whose faceclaim is Collin Firth. Of course you can recreate original characters you've played elsewhere.
5c. The profile fields are for information concerning your character only. Try to keep a status relevant to the character as well whether it be a quote or something that would be relevant for that character.
6a. Signatures must be no wider than 500 px and no taller than 350 px. We recommend 500x220ish.
6b. Signatures must be Regency themed in order to contribute to the general feel of the site. This is because not every faceclaim comes with pictures of ones' celebrity in Regency attire. Additional guidelines for how to achieve this can be found in the graphics board.
6c. Signatures may not be .gif images.
6d. Artists must be credited either above or below the signature - either with a tag (if they are on this site) or with a link to a profile of their choosing on a different site. This does not apply to members using their own work for signatures.
6e. If an artist ceases to be on this site - their work must either be credited with a reference link of their choosing or deleted should they prefer not to have their work on a site that they are not on themselves. Artists must express their preference regarding this prior to departure. If they do not the default will be deletion of their work.
7a. Avatars need not be of the faceclaim in regency attire but we ask that it be cropped to show the least amount of modern attire possible.
7b. Likewise, we ask that pictures be chosen that do not have too glaringly modern hairstyles. This includes very obviously dyed hair, very obviously modern cuts and on female characters we suggest pictures where the faceclaim has their hair up as wearing your hair down in rengency times would be something pretty much exclusive to smaller children and the poor.
8. Character Creation
8a. The amount of characters a member may have is determined accoding to a quoata which can be found HERE.
8b. Everytime a member creates a character they must reach 10 posts with that character before they may create another.
8c. If a member creates an account but fails to make a character application for this account before 6 months have passed this account will be considered inactive and deleted.
9. Calendar and sitetime
The current in game year is always the year displayed in the 'Date'-bow on the main page. The time is set in GMT and follows the current time. This means that if it is current November 20th 2018 at 5 GMT - then the in game time is November 20th 1811 at 5 o'clock and so on. A post is always set on the date of the starter post UNLESS it is posted in Memory Lane. The time of day within the post is established through rp and does not follow the real time clock.
